BEQUESTS AND ARCHIVES
Through various bequests, donations and purchases, the Giorgio Cini Foundation has come into possession of collections, archives and private libraries in various fields. Over the years major cultural figures or their respective heirs have chosen to entrust documents, autograph manuscripts, correspondence, bibliographic materials, drawings, photographs and so forth to the Foundation, attesting to the cultural prestige of the Institutes on San Giorgio. This invaluable unpublished material is subsequently sorted, catalogued and made available to scholars for further research.
The greater part of the collections at the Giorgio Cini Foundation was acquired by Vittorio Cini as a direct endowment to the Foundation and was donated there in the early 60's. Other collections that were formerly at the Castle of Monselice (restored and refurnished between 1935 and 1940) were bequeathed to the Foundation in 1971, while still others are the legacy of Vittorio Cini's impassioned and diversified collecting. The Foundation has also received numerous bequests from prominent cultural figures, collectors and artists who were close to Cini and, in the years that followed, admirers of the Institution he created.
